Scholarship Scams
Need Money for College? Doesn't everybody? Unfortunately, in their efforts to pay the bills, many students and their families are falling prey to scholarship scams.

According to the Federal Trade Commission [FTC], students and parents should be cautions when searching for college funding and scholarships. Unfortunately, there are people trying to scam you out of your hard earned money.

When searching for scholarship and college funding, be cautious if you are presented with these tell tale lines:

  1. The scholarship is guaranteed or your money back."

  2. "You can't get this information anywhere else."

  3. "I just need your credit card or bank account number to hold this scholarship."

  4. "We'll do all the work."

  5. "The scholarship will cost some money."

  6. "You've been selected by a 'national foundation' to receive a scholarship" or "You're a finalist" in a contest you never entered.
